Hey man, just checking out the site here coz I saw Steve the Wolf had posted here. Man I can't believe he posted on here before he got locked up dude. That's kinda creepy. He was like, on the net just like u and me, then they find those kid pictures and bam, he's gone. Cold. Real cold.

hi, decent enougth site. Question: Is the Drenai world based upon Magic - Science -or a combination of Both? Question: Did you know that the Drenai books link up with Knights of Dark renown, same world, knights is earlier though. The same kingdoms are mentioned in books. Can you confirm this theory?

I'm Russian fan of David Gemmell. My favourite book is "In the Realm of Wolf". My favourite hero is Waylander. I even wrote two short fanfics - one about Ion Shannow, another one about Waylander.
Alas, many Gemmell's novels are not translated yet. Such as Ironhand's Dayghter, Swords of Night and Day, Morning Star, Lion of Macedonia.

Great site!!! Only problem is that its making me want to read all the Drenai books again!! Dont know if anyone knows this or not but some years ago there was a computer game for the spectrum (yes that long ago) that included the game, the first printing of Legend and a map! I remember buying it and I think I was about 10 then, to this day I still have it and from time to time look at it and remember all the fun and the first time I read the book.

I'm not sure if the site creator will read this. But I was reading the Angel-Senta relationships and have something that may be considered more proof.
Okay... In Legend of DeathWalker - Nosta Khan says to Druss, something along the lines of "your ancestor Angel had two sons. One tall and handsome the other was a warrior."
We've established the warrior is Bardan, Druss's granfather so I'm guessing the tall, handsome one is Senta. Sorry for the lack of detail but I don't know what page it is or the exact quote. It may be worth looking into and adding it to your website though!

Yes, i use this name everywhere i go, and very few people recognise it. I doubt anyone here will have that problem ;)
Just wanted to say that I bought the Drenai computer game when I was about 7 (13 years ago), and it had a map in there. The game was for the sinclair spectrum, and I have to say that it looked nothing like the maps attempted here. I'm sure that David was consulted about the drawing of the map, so if anyone could track it down, it would be a great help.
The game came with a copy of Legend. The artwork was all black, with a picture of a steel-clad, helmet-wearing warrior with a sword, surrounded by skulls. I loved the book. I read it immediately and thought it was great. My father read it and loved it too, of coursegot addicted too ;)
If anyone is wondering about what the lands of the earth look like in this timeline, just look no further than that.
Sadly, I sold my spectrum and the games and this map when I was 11.
I kept the book, though. Still have it ;)

Great site!Even do the history spoiled King Beyond The Gate for me.I beagan reading DGs books with LODW 4 months ago and followed this up with Waylander.I was so hooked I went out and bought all the Drenai saga at the same time.Thats a big and expensive leap of faith.I havent been disappointed in the slightest.
Since reading all the works of Tolkien I couldnt find anything to read that stirred me or captivated me like the good Prof every other book I read just bored me witless.I thought that no other author of heroic fantasy could come close to these works until I discovered DGs books which I have enjoyed just as much and even more so at times. So Id like to thank David for all his works and Im hoping for many more!
P.S. Are the other series like the Rigante and stand alones like KODR and EOTGS set in the same world as the Drenai?

The wolf is right. I noticed whilst I was reading 'White Wolf' that a lot of the enclosed map is contradictory to the descriptions in the other books; this is most noticable when we have airborne people moving at speed- like the Thirty- who can describe what they see. I had never seen a map before WW, and had high hopes for it. Sadly... WE really need to map the Drenai world properly.
Best Wishes,
Larry

Excellent work, little brother ! I have read and Re-read the Drenai tales from the first print, and I have often doodled maps and worked out time lines and such; I usually arrive at the same conclusions as yourself, so now I dont bother- I just log in to your site. We Drenai have really got to get it together on the map though! there are so many kicking around, and the one published in White Wolf is visibly wrong from the start. Any one wanna talk Drenai, Gimme a mail Nadir We! (although if we need a name, like trekkies have, fans should call themselves the Drenai. hi i am 15 an have read all the drenai books and i love the series my favoroute character was orrin ( legend ) because of his unexpected display of courage on the fronlines of dros delnoch even after losing some of his fingers i also like waylander for his bluntness and abrupt veiw of life - kill or be killed some constructive critisism however . I think that the lentrians should be more involved the books seeing as they greatly helped the counter attack at dros purdol in waylander and seem to be a good ally to the drenai anyway what do i know anybody who wishes to email me about my thoughts can contact me at cdattfield@hotmail.com

Great site you have here by the way, but everyone is talking about Waylander 3, I just finished book number 2 but W3 is not realeased here in Norway yet after what I can see. It would be nice to get in contact with other Gemmell fans, so contact me on MSN if you are interested or anyone else die-hard fans are willing to share some words about this great writer and his books!

Just like the rest of you I'm a huge fan. Since I'm in the army (and overseas to boot) it's kind of hard to get all of Mr. Gemmell's books but so far I've been pretty lucky. His style of writing never ceases to amaze. My only complaint is that there's not a new one every month

Hey man, very impressive site. It really helped me to get an idea of how Waylander the Slayer is finally related to Druss. I do have one question though, on your list of characters you have The Albino Sebitar down as the new founder of the Thirty in 'King Beyond the Gate', but how can this be as He is killed at the end of 'Legend'? I'm not saying your site is wrong but I'm just wondering.

I really like D. Gemmel's writing. If you begin reading his books you just can not stop reading it. I am reading some of his books in Dutch at the moment, but the publisher is going to slow :) So David please tell your Dutch publishers that they hurry up with the translations of all your books.
Hope to get some soon.

I'm extatic to see that so many people love D Gemmell books. He is by far the best writer ever and anyone who does not read at least one of his books are really missing out. One question. Is it just me or do a lot of new readers start with Knights of Dark Renown? I love it. Mr Gemmell, if you read this, would you please consider writing another book of the Gabala? Drenai rule!

Hello people
I have been taking a look at some fan based web sites, most sites i come across are visually taxing but this one is well put together. Although the timeline is a little out of sinc you have done quite well to piece it together. I will say that it is possible to work out the exact timeline from reading the books.
In addition to an earlier post, Yes I have written another drenai book, in fact I wrote it before I wrote "Druss the Legend". But it will not be published for awhile yet, as I have other books to promote first. I may even send a signed pre-release copy to a certain house in Chepstow.

Great site, well done for sorting the timeline out. I bought Legend when it was first published and loved it but didn't read much Gemmell from mid 90's on. I am now trying to reread the Drenai stuff in the correct chronological order (my son to, who is now well into Gemmell). Thanks for sorting it out in my mind! The book covers don't explain the order so well. (Or maybe I just thick!!)

Ekodas and Shia have a duaghter that marries the young deaf boy, their Son is ULRIC, the mightier grandson is Tenaka Khan. Maybe your time line needs a slight revision.

Hi there,
I have been a fan of David Gemmel for a long time, and I have found your site very interesting, and I am also pleased to see so many others partaking in the brilliance that is Gemmell.
However, this posting relates to the age of Waylander in HITS. His actual age may well be 70+, however, if you remember back to the ending of Waylander, when Danyal met Kai, and he suggested that he healed Waylander. Since Kai has been trooping around for a least 100 or so years, I would have thought that some of that "healing power" has slowed down the physical age of Waylander. Therefore, within the time frame you have quite rightly pieced together, Waylander is indeed likely to be 70+, however, physically he may not be older than an equivalent 45 year old. Plus, if we also take into account the amount of training he does, is it not likely that he has indeed remained physically fit, and therefore be able to performs as he does in HITS.
If I may draw a paralell here, Gemmell also used a similar method to keep John Shannow young in Wolf In Shadow. If you haven't read the sipstrassi tales (Wolf in Shadow, Bloodstone, and The Last Gaurdian are the main three) then you should definately check them out.
On a separate note, have you heard any news about ANY of Gemmell's books being made into films? They would work so well, although it would have to be in the hands of someone who will not Hollywoodise the characters and use too much CGI which they tend to these days.
Anyway, I'd love to hear from you in reply to my posting, I hope University is going well.
Regards Martin

Nice site! Very well thought out timelines, lot of work put in. I don't think though that the timeline is really as short as it is made out to be. If I remember right, in Legend the Thirty discuss the conflict of that time and said the Drenai were a empire for 600 years at the time of Legend. In Waylander, it really seemed to me that Orien was their first king, and they weren't even a empire really yet, so I always assumed that Waylander took place 600 years or so before Legend. Anyway, I like the site a lot, keep up the good work :)

Wow, didn't realise there was this big a fan base until today. Legend still is (in my humble opinion) the best of the lot. Currently reading Ravenheart which has been fantastic so far. If anyone fancies a change from fantasy may I recomend the Dirk Pitt novels written by Clive Custler, these are great too!

As you can see by my email address I am a big fan of the great assassin! I first picked up "Legend" last year and since then I have been unable to put the Drenai saga down. They have got to be some of the most well written stories that I have ever read and that is saying something, coz I've read a hell of a lot! Anyway your site is great and keep up the good work.

Never, ever in my life would i think to read a book at all. My friend gave me a book to read one day and i said i was not into reading at all. She insisted that it was a good book and that i'd enjoy it. Two days had passed and as i was walking into my room i noticed it sitting on my desk. i had two hours to go before i had to head off to work, so i picked it up and started reading it. It was IRONHANDS DAUGHTER, book one of the Hawk Queen. To my astonishment i could not put it down, so i rang my job and called in sick. I finshed it cover to cover that same day...wow, what a book.Since then i have read book two, THE ETERNAL HAWK, wow...i think im hooked.I have read 4 others since then, in a space of two weeks. My favourite being the Rigante series, but not by much as they are all facinating tales. No matter what i read of David Gemmel they are certainly hard to put down, thats the truth. David Gemmel you are the man!!!.In 34yrs i had no books at all, in a space of two weeks i've read 6, all David Gemmel. My mission...to read them all, no matter what.

I am trying to find out about David's forthcoming publication due around March, however all the sites that I usually dig up info from don't seem to have been updated for a very long time. I have been told from a very reliable source to expect one more Druss novel at some point in time or at least a new Drenai story and am eager to hear from anyone who may have an idea of what to expect, or even if I should expect anything at all. I just have to know!!

I have every single david gemmel book currently available and have read them all numerous times (including the first druss currently at 7). i have a deep love for his books and it is showing in my speech.. wierd. some of my friends that like to read have begun to share my apreciation towords his books also. i think that the first druss(can no longer read the worn cover) is the very best of all with its nonstop action and dogged determination along with the fall of many fortresses and well into old age. my favorite part is when druss leaps onto the corsair and makes 50 men throw down their wepons kills the sorceror and finishes in time for him to see the shark slain. i think that this site could be much inproved if it has some pictures or scetches of what some of the main characters are such as druss rek karnak tenaka kahn and so on. i visit this site alot because it has cleared up much information such as the mpa and timeline. for now i wait

I like this whole site because of all the info. It shows all my favorite caracters and books tells endings and starts ext. i am currently reading quest for lost heros and in the realm of the wolf i've read legend winter warriors and a few others. IN the book legend i think it's a miracle how at the last second when the drenai would die fur sure the sathuli warriors showed up. Also how ulrics own castle/legion was under attack so the nadir left to defend ulrics legion.
